Spring went by so quickly that it was almost a bur and here it is the middle of July and Summer seems to be going just as quick. Spring was a good kind of busy for me that included travel for continuing education, travel for work and best of all, travel for family. I’m blessed by my good fortune of having my health and family, and also for having a profession that I truly enjoy.

Here are some highlights from my Spring 2013.

Office remodel 1

This Spring I redecorated the office to create a fresh space that would be both comfortable and casual for my patients. The ambiance was to create a coffee shop environment, that was clean, uncluttered and very comfortable. Furnishing were local sourced from Modern on 5th Street in Eugene, from Design Within Reach, with assistance from Stacy Day from the Portland studio and from Flor on-line floor coverings. The new design has been very good for hosting the new art displays this year featuring local photographers. Patients have enjoyed the look of the office and it has also added some inspiration for the staff as well.

Tufts Dental School

May saw me out in Boston taking continuing education classes at Tufts Dental School, which is really an amazing teaching institute. It was on my list of consideration for dental school, but it was too hard for the kid from Oregon to go east and I ended up getting a very good education and clinical training at the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry, in Portland. One of the greatest joys of my profession is that it makes me a student for life and the continued learning is a great benefit that pays dividends in providing quality health care.

My newest area of interest in patient care is in the growing field of dental sleep medicine in the treatment of sleep apnea. This is a serious health problem that has a dental component in treating the medical condition. I am an active member in the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and a more comprehensive post will come later that will present treatment options that I can provide in treating this condition.

Granddaughter 1

And the highlight of my Spring … the birth of my first grandchild, Evangelina Joanna Poulos!!! Born at Massachusetts General Hospital on May 15th at 5:19 pm, 8 pounds 1 ounce, 21″ long. Mother , father and baby were all well and it was the most amazing thing to see and hold her for the first time. I have always heard that a grandchild is truly a wonderful thing, and now I can testify to that truth.

So my Spring 2013 was very busy, very beneficial and very, very memorable. Now onto Summer … with many posts to come. I wish everyone well and to have a happy, healthy and prosperous Summer.
