What

A photo series shot by local Eugene community members using a Holga 120 medium format camera.

Why

Eugene: From Holga with Love is an opportunity to view our community through various lenses and appreciate the diversity and broad range of visions our community members hold. Each individual’s view and prints will provide a unique perspective of our community.

The prints from the project will be on display for a one night only show, hosted at the Karin Clarke Gallery (760 Willamette St. Eugene, OR). The prints will be sold by silent auction that night, with proceeds from the event going to five local charities, which will be announced later this year.

How

Members of our community will be provided Holga cameras, each loaded with one roll of film. These members of our local Eugene community will be able to shoot the essence of Eugene freely. Upon completion of the project, the film will be developed and one image from each roll will be printed and featured at the Karin Clarke Gallery for a silent auction. All proceeds from the auction will go to five local charities and organizations.

Use the hashtag #EugeneHolga on social media to help promote Eugene: From Holga with Love.

When

The Eugene: From Holga with Love will be shot over the summer of 2016. The charity silent auction and artist reception will be held on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at 6-8pm.

The Five Beneficiaries

I am pleased to announce the five local organizations selected by the 20+ #EugeneHolga participants: Food for Lane County, Lane Arts Council, Luvable Dog Rescue, OSLP Arts & Culture Program and Womenspace. 100% of the proceeds will be divided equally between the five selected organizations. The event will take place on Saturday, November 19th from 6-8pm at the Karin Clarke Gallery.

Holga 120S Camera

The Holga is a medium format 120 film camera, made in Hong Kong and known for its low-fidelity aesthetic. The Holga’s low-cost construction and simple meniscus lens often yields pictures that display vignette, blur, light leaks and other distortions. The limitations of the camera have brought it a cult following among some photographers, and Holga photos have won a number of awards and competitions in art and news photography.
