Much of Mark’s early Nature and Landscape photography was just a “snapshot” of the places he has been. The past few years have brought an interest in capturing fine art photographs that are worthy of hanging on the wall. Combining photography with an enjoyment of the outdoors; hiking in the woods, walking along the beach, star gazing, fishing and traveling.
He looks for places less traveled, taking detours down gravel roads to see waterfalls that few people have heard of, or to see the ruts in the rocks created by an old wagon road. Combining those trips with photography is just a bonus. He works to capture a few of the many beautiful and interesting sights that nature creates for others to enjoy.

Where do you find your inspiration?
Inspirations come from nature itself. The light of the morning clouds turning pink and red, the smell of dirt in the air and the changing light during a summer rainstorm. The scent of juniper on a cold crisp morning, blue and pink skies creating the Belt of Venus, viewing the wonders of the Milky Way from a mountain top, experiencing the views of a new vista or trail. The mist rising off a river or lake in the early morning, the rustle of the wind in the trees. Being outdoors with the light, the color and the intricacies of nature, is what inspires me.
Favorite thing to do in or around Eugene…
Riding the Willamette River bike path, or riding to the top of Skinner Butte with my grandson.
Quote that inspires your creativity…
“The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”

Capturing the best light of the day, up early and stay out late, photography is about capturing the light.

The images I plan to display are landscape and nature photographs from across Oregon, captured both day and night.
Living in Oregon all his life, Mark’s appreciation for the outdoors began at an early age, with his mom driving him places to fish or hunt. He continues to enjoy the outdoors; hiking, camping, fishing, exploring and photographing nature. Mark currently lives and works in Eugene with his wife Vicki and has two grown children and three grandchildren.
