Artist Statement

Judi Lamb, owner of Northwest Exposures Photography, is celebrating 11 years in business photographing a wide variety of subjects including Portrait (Headshots, Couples, Families, Children, High School Seniors and Graduates, Newborns), Events(Corporate, Weddings, Rites of Passage, Proms, Performance), and Commercial (Product, Day in the Life, Aerial, Architectural, Food and Beverage) Photography.

A personal project is street photography in distant cities, Sydney Australia and New York City being her favorite and most photographed. Her approach is discreet, yet open, and she finds the larger cities most conducive to blending in and capturing spontaneous moments. She enjoys going back to these cities at the same time of year, capturing similar locations / events to document the change of times and culture of these events. In 2013 she began a project photographing the annual Easter Bonnet Parade in New York City and is returning again this April to photograph that event again. In January 2016, she photographed the annual Australia Day Festival and returned this past January 2019 to photograph the event once again.

Judi’s influences include Gary Winogrand, a New York street photographer active in the 1960’s, and the places where people come together to experience the city, whether in their daily routines or as tourists experiencing an area in a new way.

This display is from New York City in 2013 showing the diversity and nuances of a big city and the people who are there in that moment of time.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find inspiration in each person I work with. As a portrait artist I look for the best way to represent who the person is in front of my camera.

Favorite thing to do in or around Eugene…

I love the hiking opportunities so near to the city.

Quote that inspires your creativity…

“In every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.”

Northwest Exposures Photography: The Faces of New York City – Street Photography
April 6-June 25, 2019 (Q2)
As a portrait and event photographer, Judi Lamb’s challenge in street photography is to capture the choreography of the street life and attempt to isolate the individual within the crowd. These are a few captures from 2013 that include Times Square, the Dakota Hotel doormen (where Yoko Ono lives), Greenwich Village, and other areas in the Manhattan area.
